Home Beer Brewing has literally been around for centuries

Home beer brewing was once considered the safest way to drink water, what a thought eh? Most home brewers use an adapted pressure cooker with tubing attached to funnel the steam to the mash mixture where it begins to cook the mixture in a way much quicker than just boiling it.
So just what is required to setup your home beer brewing station? Finding a good supplier for your equipment is imperative as they will be available to give you the best advice on the latest techniques as well as the best equipment to buy within your budget.

What’s required for Home Beer Brewing?

A Brew pot - this is one of the main necessities in any home beer brewing arsenal and in this instance size really does matter! Really the bigger the better you will need something in the vicinity of 20 – 30 quarts as the more mash you cook the better the quality of the end result.

A primary fermenter - this is basically a large tank where you pour the mixture once it has been brewed. The tank itself needs to be big enough to hold the entire contents from the brew pot and it needs to be completely air tight with a small hole for the airlock to attach.

Bottling bucket - This is another large container that we will use to bottle the beer once its fully ready it needs to have a small plug or tap on the bottom to help make life just that little bit easier.

Other items of requirement include – Glass beer bottles and a capping tool as well as caps to put the finished home brew into and seal keeping it at its best for the longest of times. You will also need rubber stops, flexible hosing and bottling tubes to name just a few, there are literally dozens of other things that could be used to aid you in the home beer brewing process however this is all you really need except maybe a hydrometer to check the alcohol levels of your finished product however its not entirely necessary so you may want to hold off until you decide to scale up your home beer brewing empire.

Almost all large cities now have stores dedicated to beer making supplies,

Beer Making Supplies shops and store to fulfill all your beer brewing needs

That’s just how popular the scene has become and even more surprising are a lot of these stores now have an online presence too.

Although local stores can be more pricey than their internet counterpart you can often find much more specialized beer making supplies and beer making ingredients due to shelf life as well has local and general interest, so it’s always worth a look. You will also find an often much more personalized experience as well as solid advice.

Unfortunately if you are not from one of the larger cities its often much more difficult and rare to find a local store for your beer making supplies and in this case the best bet is an online store.
Online beer making supplies stores often have a much greater range and due to low overhead cost can yield much more competitive prices and in the long run the savings are great.
There are two types of online store that sell beer making supplies the smaller home grown store that has diversified online as discussed earlier and the larger more dedicated internet only business. It’s imperative that you choose your online store correctly as the smaller home grown bossiness are usually slower and less experienced in packing than the larger internet only based companies.

There are always exceptions to this rule however I have always found this the case in my own experiences. So why not checkout some of our sponsors for all your Beer Making Supplies as I’m sure you will find everything that you are looking for to make your beer brewing experience not only more successful but that extra bit more special to keep you entertained in your new hobby for the years to come.

The basic home beer brewing ingredients

in the Home Beer Brewing process are – hops, malted barley, water and yeast. Just what are these Beer Brewing Ingredients used for?

Hops are one of the beer brewing ingredients and are used to add bitterness to the mixture as well as flavor and that beer like smell that we all know and love. The more hops that you add to your mash generally the stronger the flavor and the more bitter it becomes as a final product.
Malt barley is one of the most commonly used beer brewing ingredients in the beer making process. The malt barley is basically a seed that has been soaked in water until it has started to sprout and allowed to germinate. The barley is then dried out in a drying oven so it can be used in the beer making process. The differences in character of the barley created in the drying process will ultimately decide the color , taste and smell of the final product.

The upmost important beer brewing ingredients in the whole home brewing system is plain old water as it makes up almost ninety percent of the final beer product. The mineral levels in the water itself help to control the flavor and strength of the finished beer. Stout is generally brewed from hard water whereas a pilsner is made from very soft water therefore the brewer uses filters to control the main aspect and characteristics of the beer.

The final base beer brewing ingredients is yeast, this is another imperative ingredient, Yeast a fungi is used to control the fermentation of the beer itself. The main two types of yeast that are used are Saccharomyce cerevisae (the ale yeast) and Saccharomyces uvarum (the lager yeast). As well as fermentation yeast also is an important factor in the flavor of the final beer product.

So there you have it folks these are the main 4 beer brewing ingredients that are used in any home beer brewing process they will vary vastly in quantity in the different types of beer however they will always exist in the final beer product.

Typical Beer Brewing Ingredients

Hopefully this article as well as some of the others on the site will give you a better understanding of what is needed for all your beer brewing needs including typical Beer Brewing Ingredients.
